“This was my last [T20I] jogo também”, Rohit disse na coletiva de imprensa após a final. “Não há melhor hora para dizer adeus a este formato. Adorei cada momento disto. Comecei minha carreira na Índia jogando este formato. Era isto que eu queria, queria ganhar a taça.
“I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line.”
Rohit Sharma, who will continue in Test and ODI formats, retires as T20 international’s highest scorer with 4231 runs in 159 matches and a record five centuries. Rohit has won two T20 World Cups: the first in 2007 as a player and now in 2024 as captain. As both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced calling curtains to the shortest format of the game, the fans were left dismayed.
